Diseases Associated with Environmental Factors
Diseases associated with environmental factors include:
- Heat exhaustion & Sun/Heat Stroke
Heat exhaustion and Sun stroke can easily occur in Southeast Asia, and if severe can be life threatening. The best method of preventionis by drinking lots of water and wearing cool clothes.
Sunburn is more common in the tropics, and sun block and protective hats or clothing are important to prevent serious damage to the skin resulting in increased risk of skin cancer.
Hypothermia or low body temperature is more common in clod countries, but can still occur in Southeast Asia. Avoid clod exposure for logn periods of time.
- Respiratory distress and altitude sickness
Respiratory distress due to pollution, dust or polen is quite common in South Asia. Those with a history of asthma should have their medicine with them at all times.
Altitude sickness happens with a rapid increase in elevation. Slow increases allow the body to adapt. There is medication to prevent this problem as well.
