Typhoid
Typhoid is an infection contracted from contaminated food or water. It can cause fever, headaches, diarrhea or constipation and stomach pain. It is caused by the bacteria Salmonella typhoid. Some people may become carriers of these bacteria and not have symptoms but can pass it on to others.
Prevention
Typhoid is prevented with a vaccine. Typhoid is also prevented by eating well cooked food and drinking only clean water.
Treatment
Typhoid is treated with antibiotics under a doctor's care, but is difficult to diagnose through obtaining stool or blood cultures for the bacteria.
